This leads me to conclude that in the case of multiple displays - Android Studio philosophy is to pick the largest size and size the Emulator window accordingly. This is ideal because I can now reattach the big ASUS monitor and the window is still a comfortable size. This results in an emulator window that fits my MacBook Pro in height.
